Gustav Mahler Music Weeks Toblach 2026 The 45th Gustav Mahler Music Weeks will take place in Toblach from 11 July to 5 September 2026 under the theme “The Beginning.” Alongside long-standing Artistic Director Josef Lanz, Dirk Kaftan will shape the festival programme for the first time. Highlights include concerts by the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, and the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, as well as performances by promising young international artists. The programme is complemented by lectures, a symposium, the traditional hike to Gustav Mahler’s composing hut, and special encounters with guests such as Massimo Cacciari and Reinhold Messner. The concerts take place in the Gustav Mahler Hall of the Grand Hotel Cultural Centre Toblach, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the Dolomites. Short circular walk (slightly uphill-150 meters difference in altitude) of approx. 50 min. on asphalt or gravel road to the Kleinmarer farm. We visit the farm with stable, animals and garden. The experience for the whole family is rounded off with a tasting of typical farm products. The way back to the starting point takes approx. 40 min. Together with Lanz Active, we discover a legendary hike in the area of the Hohe Gaisl (Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo). Inspired by the legend of the “Marmot Princess,” the route leads through a fascinating landscape where nature and imagination are closely intertwined. From Gemärk in the Höhlenstein Valley, we ascend through the Knappenfußtal, first along a pleasant forest trail and then via a series of switchbacks up to the Plätzwiese plateau. Once at the top, a well-deserved break awaits us in a wide alpine setting, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the majestic Hohe Gaisl.
